  • Connects to decisions — linking competitive data to roadmap priorities, not just a reference doc

Here's how we think about replacing the spreadsheet:

  1. Define your competitive set — Not every company in your space matters equally. Pick 3-5 that genuinely compete for the same budget.
  2. Identify signal categories — Product changes, hiring patterns, funding, pricing, messaging shifts.
  3. Set up automated monitoring — Use tools that watch for changes rather than requiring manual updates.
  4. Create a weekly digest — One page, five minutes. What changed this week and why it matters.
